Authors & Illustrators Night is a marquee event at Lowell Elementary School, funded by PTA donations and facilitated by the hard work of PTA volunteers. This year's event is a product of the hard work of Lowell Parent and Event Chair Lisa Johnston Hancock. 

René Colato Laínez is a Hispanic educator and author of several bilingual/multicultural award-winning children's books. His books reflect the immigrant experience from a child’s point of view, covering topics such as cultural identity issues, the difficulties of learning a second language, and missing a loved one. Most of his books are based on his own experiences. He has a master's degree from Vermont College of Fine Arts in Writing for Children & Young Adults. René is an elementary teacher at Fernangeles Elementary School, Los Angeles Unified School District.
