Authors & Illustrators Night is a marquee event at Lowell Elementary School, funded by PTA donations and facilitated by the hard work of PTA volunteers. This year's event is a product of the hard work of Lowell Parent and Event Chair Lisa Johnston Hancock. 


Marie Chan shares stories that inspire love for all. Being the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants fueled her passion to write children’s books that amplify underrepresented voices, highlight hidden figures in Asian American history, and build cross-cultural awareness. Marie received a BIPOC scholarship from SCBWI for her biography of Mamie Tape. Her book, Mamie Takes a Stand, received a 2024 Eureka! Gold Award for Excellence in Children's Nonfiction from the California Reading Association.
