How to become a
VIPS at Lowell...

Interested in volunteering in your child's classroom and getting first-hand exposure to your child's experiences? You can be a Volunteers in Public Schools.  As a VIPS, you can work directly with students, assist the teacher in preparing class materials, and enrich the classroom with a special talent or skill. Most teachers will accept as many VIPS as are willing and available. Your child's teacher will determine the hours and days the class needs the assistance of a VIPS, and will contact you with a schedule that suits you both.

In order to be a VIPS, you must complete an application with LBUSD, available in the workroom next to the school office, OR RIGHT HERE when you click to download this PDF version.

Submit completed applications to Lowell's school office, along with a copy of your current TB test results. Your VIPS status is good for 4 years, after which a new VIPS application and new TB test must be submitted.

LBUSD does not keep a copy of your TB tests, only the valid dates, so it is always a good idea to keep your own copies. LBUSD begins processing applications as soon as they receive them, however, it may take two+ months before they are approved. Therefore the sooner you turn in your application, the sooner you'll receive your VIPS badge and be able to volunteer in the classroom.

If you have any questions about volunteering at Lowell and specifically about the VIPS program, please send email to Jackie Scarborough, VIPS Coordinator at: vips(at)lowellpta(dot)com

Remember all school visitors, VIPS included, must sign Lowell's visitors' log in the front office each time they visit. VIPS must wear their VIPS badge or blue visitor's badge every time they volunteer.

If you have lost your VIPS badge, please fill out another VIPS Application and note on the top “Lost Badge, Need Replacement”.  The district replaces badges after all new ones have been sent out.
