Meet the Masters
Welcome back!!! We hope that you all had an exciting summer and are ready for another fantastic school year. The Meet-the-Masters Team is looking forward to continuing this wonderful program of vibrant art and art history again this year. The students will be learning about another varied group of artists, as well as producing art in their own styles. We are proud and excited to present the following Artists for this year!
The Meet The Masters program would not be possible without the collaboration of our great parent volunteers, Lowell faculty, and our MTM representative, Sonya Stone. Here are the steps each lesson plan follows:
1. Sonya Stone leads students through an artist introduction in our school auditorium using slide presentations, prints, props, and music. Sessions last 20-45 minutes depending on grade level. The parent volunteers attend the 5th grade assembly which begins at 2:25 p.m. on the dates specified below.
2. Following the 5th grade assembly, Sonya Stone then teaches a one-hour parent volunteer/faculty art project lesson at 3:30 p.m. in the school library.
3. Next, based on the in-classroom art lesson dates/times Lowell teachers have scheduled, parent volunteers/faculty generate the 90-minute, hands-on art project with students. In-classroom lesson schedules are posted in the school workroom and on each grade-level work basket. Each grade shares a work basket with art supplies that rotates through the classrooms beginning with the earliest lesson date. Lessons are completed within two weeks following the assembly/training sessions.
You MUST be a VIP in order to participate in this program. If you are a new parent, make sure you get your VIP paperwork into the office as soon as possible. You will not be able to teach or assist in a lesson until you have your badge.
Please mark your calendar now if you are interested in becoming an MTM parent volunteer. A Meet The Masters volunteer sign-up sheet will be available in each classroom during Back to School Night.
Meet The Masters assembly/training dates are as follows:
October 16th: Alexander Calder
December 4th: Georges Seurat
February 26th: Henri Rousseau
April 9th: Edgar Degas
May 7th: Toulouse Lautrec
Be on the lookout for Meet The Masters program updates each month in future Lowell Log issues as well as via weekly Room Rep email blasts.
Thank you all so much for your enthusiastic participation. It’s going to be a fabulous and creative year of artwork and art history. We are looking forward to seeing you all on October 16th! Please note: NO KINDERGARTEN for our first training.
