World Explorer Day

World Explorer Day: Exploring our Multi-Cultural Heritage will take place on Thursday, February 8th from 2:30 pm– 4pm on the playground. Students (and their families) are encouraged to come and explore the world through geography and culture.
World Explorer Day is coming up fast! The committee is looking for volunteers to help with set up, staffing the event and clean-up on Thursday Feb 8th from 1pm – 5pm. If you’d like to volunteer please use the signup genius link below.
In addition to general support they specifically need:
  • Someone to lead a paper folding activity (e.g. origami, or Chinese paper lanterns).
  • People to write children’s names in other alphabets. They currently have someone to write in Persian, Amharic and Vietnamese, but would love others. Grandparents welcome.
  • An artist to draw a chalk mandala on the playground
  • Photographers
  • Families who wish to share cultural artifacts at the event (nothing too fragile of course).
Please contact Liz Barnett at to get involved.

Students will have an opportunity to handle artifacts from other countries and cultures, engage with maps, globes and atlases, have their names written in other languages, participate in cultural activities and more.

The goal of the event is to honor the diversity at Lowell, inspire curiosity about the world, and explore the idea of migration and how cultures move from place to place.
